EXPLORING CLASSICAL MANDOLIN

Mando Montréal est fier d'annoncer que le 28 novembre prochain, il sera l'hôte du mandoliniste américain August Watters pour son masterclass. August est un musicien multi-disciplinaire et professeur en musique au Collège Berklee de Boston. Il est l'auteur de la récente publication de Berklee Press, «Exploring Classical Mandolin : Technique & Repertoire». Dans cet atelier de 3h, August partagera avec nous son approche du jeu de l'instrument et sa vision moderne basée sur de fortes traditions classiques.

 

Mando Montreal is pleased to announce that on november 28th, we will hosting a masterclass with american mandolinist August Watters. August is a multi-stylistic musician and Professor at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. He is the author of the recently published Berklee Press book, «Exploring Classical Mandolin: Technique & Repertoire ». In this 3-hour workshop, August will share his modern approach to mandolin musicianship, based in the deep roots of classical traditions.

 

AUGUST WATTERS

August Watters est un musicien multi-disciplinaire, compositeur, arrangeur et professeur au College Berklee de Boston USA. Son travail en mandoline fait le pont entre la musique classique, le jazz et les traditions folkloriques. Il est le fondateur du New England Mandolin Ensemble, Boston Mandolins, du Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music, et du Cape Cod Mandoline Camp. Dans son livre «Exploring Classical Mandolin». Il fait un vaste éventail des techniques et du répertoire de la mandoline classique. 

August Watters is multi-stylistic mandolinist, composer, arranger, and Professor of Ear Training at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. His work bridges contemporary classical music, jazz and folk music traditions, and historical repertoire. He is the founder of the New England Mandolin Ensemble, Boston Mandolins, the Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music, and Cape Cod Mandolin Camp. His Berklee Press book, «Exploring Classical Mandolin», presents a wide overview of classical mandolin technique & repertoire, as well as original etudes designed to build command of classical technique. Also featured is original concert music, and familiar classical and folk melodies arranged for solo mandolin.

  • Application d'exercices auditifs mettants en relation différents concepts d'accords et de gammes.
  • Découverte des techniques avancées de jeu «split-string» et «duo-style».

 

  • Present an overview of the various schools of thought in mandolin technique, posture, and tone production.
  • Discover classical mandolin repertoire and practice through its national traditions and historical eras.
  • Explore modern picking and arpeggio patterns rooted in classical mandolin music of the 18th and 19th centuries.
  • Apply ear training tools such as scales, chords, and melody-harmony relationships to help understand fretboard logistics.
  • Present practical approaches to advanced techniques like «split-string» and «duo-style» playing.
